To get sound in your .mpg file, first download/open VirtualDub.
Then select file-> open video file. Your .avi movie should be loaded now. Now go to audio->conversion-> and select 44100 Hz and leave the rest as it is. Now audio->compression-> select no compression (PCM) and finally "save wav". This should be done in a few minutes depending on the size of the movie, then simply when loading up your movie in TMPGenc, remember to select the wav that you just created into the "audio file" selection.Did you know you can SEARCH the forum? Can you post the characteristics of your video file?
The sound is probably in AC3. You will need VirtualDub 1.4C AC3 (search for it on google)
First, load up the file in VDub and under the video tab, set it to "Direct Stream Copy". Then under "file" select save wav/ac3 and REMEMBER to save it as .ac3, NOT .wav. Then download AC3PX3Converter (grab it here) and load up the .ac3 file, then convert it to .wav.Did you know you can SEARCH the forum? Fixes common problems too:

You will need to extract uncompressed audio like gd_nimrod explained in his first post of this thread.
Open file in VDub
Set Video tab to Direct Stream Copy
Set Audio tab to No Audio
Save avi under a new name [F7]
Set Audio tab to Full Processing Mode
Set Audio Conversion to 44,100Hz
Set Audio Compression to Uncompressed PCM
File-->Save WAV...
Load silent AVI and WAV in TMPGEnc.Comment
