from AVI to MPEG or DVD???

hi to all,
i'm a first timer here, and i badly need your help guys, please
as the GENESIS fan i am (the old genesis up to 1974) got lucky and found a complete concert in oxford, 1973, AWESOME.
the problem is:
1- can only be watched with DIVX.
2- but when divx is installed, my windows media player 9 goes nuts and gives me the "problem found, have to close".
3- uninstalling DIVX clears the problem but is says now error downloading codec, but i only have audio.
4- tried already, easy avi to mpeg andTMPGE and nero (the latest demo) and all say the same "file not supported"
5- the codec in question is: div3
i took the codec folder from divx and installed directly on the WMP9 folder with that result...audio only, error downloading codec (DIVX uninstalled)
my OS is XP pro, AMD K6 450mhz, 60gig hard drive and 256 megs ram.
please ladies and gentlemen, today is my birthday so please give me somthing i can do.
by the way if there's any other old genesis lover around, i can e-mail the video with pleassure.

Can you play the file in WMP 6.4 (Start-->Run-->mplayer2.exe)?

The codec you need is DivX 3.11a

thanks for your reply bud.
negative, cant do, with the divx installed id did again send the problem message and close, and after uninstalling divx could only play audio with the same "error downloading codec"
maybe there's a specific folder where i should save it?
i have the dvx 311a installed at the program files and at the WMP folders and the SOB is so blind that it cant find it
please. help.

Load the file in VirtualDub or GSpot and post some information regarding the file(Video/Audio details)

Are you SURE you've actually got the codec INSTALLED, or have you just downloaded it and placed it in the folders?

Assuming, as Setarip indicated, that you have actually installed (unzipped, and run the setup file for divx 3.11 alpha) try a different player such as BSPLAYER.

now thw last question.
on the settings of the TMPGE, are various forms, such as PAL and NTSC (or whatever).
i wander wich one is the one i should use , my goal is to use my CD burner and the easy cd creator 5, so i can watch it on my regular dvd player.
i think is ntsc, but wich one,
4:3 525 or 16:9 525?

Since you're in Canada, you're correct in targeting NTSC as the proper format for the VCD you're about to successfully create. the following should be helpful to you:

To create a VCD:

1) Load .AVI file into TMPGEnc
2) Set to "System Video and Audio" (lower right side)
3) Click on "Setting" radio button
4) Click on "System" tab, change mode to "MPEG1-VideoCD" (from default of "MPEG1")
5) Click on "Advanced" tab, change "Video arrange method" to "Center (Custom Size"), change dimensions to 352x288 or 352x240
6) Change "Source aspect ratio" to either "4:3 525 line (NTSC 704x480)", "4:3 525 line (NTSC)", or "16:9 525 line (NTSC)" - If you're in the PAL world choose either of the two similar PAL settings instead
7) Under the "Video" tab, change the dimensions to 352x288 or 352x240 (Note: "Video" tab mode of "MPEG1" is okay) - set "Motion Search Precision" to "Normal Quality". Change the "Aspect Ratio" to match, as closely as possible, the "Source Aspect Ratio" you set under the "Advanced" tab.
8) Change "Rate Control Mode" to "Automatic VBR (CQ_VBR)"
9) Under the "Audio" tab, set to 44,100 224Kbps
10) Press "Start"

(As an alternative to 1-10 above, you could select the appropriate TMPGEnc "wizard"/template)


Note that if your video runs longer than 70-80 minutes, you'll have to subsequently split your VCD-MPG file in two. This too can be easily and precisely accomplished using TMPGEnc. Under the "Files" dropdown menu, click on "MPEG Tools" and select the "Merge & Cut" tab. Once again, make sure to change the mode to "MPEG1-Video CD". Load your file and enter a new (.MPG) name in the "Output file" box. Then doubleclick on the ORIGINAL file's name in the window, which will bring you to the cutting area. Select your desired start and end points for the first half, click on "Okay" which will bring you back to the first window and generate (in a sequence of three automated steps) the first new file. To create the second new file, repeat the steps starting with "Then doubleclick on the ORIGINAL..." (be extra patient with the second half, as the program has to do more seeking to establish the beginning of the new file).

Use a burning program, such as NERO to burn your CD-R or R/W CD as a VCD (DON'T ask NERO to format the file as a VCD, since you've already accomplished this!)

the transfer was already being done, it took 8 hours to complete, to mpeg 1, now i've tried my roxio, adaptec easy cd creator 5 platinum bla bla bla. and the sob doesnt want to burn to dvd, it says something about clock freq, being wrong (B.S).
i did download the NERO demo but it gave me only 1 day trial so i never used it and is expired now, (kinda' weird)
i'll try again converting from mpeg to vcd with the tmpge, and see if the bloody roxio crap takes it.
what do you think?

VCDEASY, is freeware that is capable of busing (s)vcd's. You may want to look into it.

i did try and no luck, the CDRDAO was downloaded but it wouldnt install so the system never knew there was a cd-writer.
i'll try to check for something else.

Did you read the FAQ's for Vcdeasy? What error did Vcdeasy give you? Perhaps, all you need is an upgrade or different aspi layer.

http://www.dvd2svcd.org/ use this and 1 pass vbr encoding at 1600 kb for 16 9 movies and 1900 kb for 4 3 movies i have put 2 hours and 15 minutes of 16 9 on one single cd with vhs quality there are alot of variations to make that will affect the size use bicubic encoding and reduce your audio to 160 kb you can go lower but gets scratchy with certain sounds there is a help forum for this program and it works excellent you will need either tmpgenc or cinemacraft encoder i reccomend the cinemacraft much faster and the quality is better per mb used after figuring the program out you will beable to make high quality 16 9 movies and put them on one disk 4 3 will GUARANTEE a 2 disc usage the program can also add title screens and switch disc screen with any picture you would l;ike to insert. and the total runtime on my 2000 amd is 1 to 1 and what i mean is if its a hour and a half movie my vcd file will be ready in 1 and a half hours use vcdeasy to burn either the cue file(which is when you create menus) or the bbmpeg file which is a raw mpeg2 file good luck and i dont think youll ever use anything else, oh did i mentuion it works with avis and divx also try it out, boy i sound like a salesman here lol and the software is free then download the new vcdeasy it now uses either nero or adaptec engines to burn no more problems with cdrdao

thanks guys, i've got it now.
actually nero gave me till feb 28 so i use it and "voila" my 1973 genesis concert is on dvd now. it put me to tears...
