Some dvd players dont support certain brands of media.
Also, check www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers to see what other users have to say about your dvd player/

yes, not all media are compatible. My burner can write a TDK cd at top speed of 32x and the lower brand "optimum" can write at top speed of 40x
      (my burner is a 40x12x40x)

        nero and vcd

        hi,

you should first create a bin/cue file via vcdimager.org program and then burn the cue image to CD using Nero.

i've had bad results also using Nero to directly make the vcd... just didn't work. vcdimager works every time if you have encoded the mpg correctly for vcd format. the best/easiest avi to mpeg vcd format converter is DVMPEG v5+, but it's not freeware.

          VCD Imager

I couldnt use the software but I had to use a GUI or somthin cuase when I clicked it a black screen popped upa dn went away real fast. But I just started the process. Its goin pretty fast! Will I just burn this like a normal VCD? On vcdimager.org I was reading compatability with dvd players and mine was listed under the SVCD's! So hopefully a VCD will work too. If it does I am going to use the same software but for SVCD. Does anyone have a guide using TMPGEnc for SVCD? Thanks

Just finished creating a Cue/Bin file. Do I go to create a VCD and just add the Bin file instead? Or go to the VCD and add the Cue file instead? Help me!!! I want to finish it before I go to bed. Oh well I guess I can stay up. Reply soon!!!

              Cue/Bin

I found this off of www.dvdrhelp.com/nerobin.htm
              It says
""First you have to check that your .cue-fileis correctly "configured". Open your .cue-file with a text-editor. It should look something like this
              FILE "CD2.BIN" BINARY
              TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
              INDEX 01 00:00:00
              TRACK 02 MODE2/2352
              INDEX 01 00:06:12

Where it SAYS "CD2.BIN" add the full path before it, for example "D:\MOVIES\CD2.BIN"

              Launch Nero.
              Close the Wizard.
              Select File->Burn Image
Change to All files under File Types and open the .cue file that comes with the bin file.
Be sure to select "Disc-At-Once", otherwise Nero will burn the image wrong!
Select write speed and so and last hit Write."

Im going to try that and If thats not right then tell me fast befire I burn it!!!

                  Neighbors player

Just took 2 home made VCD's to my neighbors house. The one from easy cd creator had two video clips, the menu and then the actual movie. The menu just kept playing over and over. Then one that I made with Nero that had a menu wouldnt play. I was at the menu and pressing play didnt do anything. Im getting ready to burn the movie without a menu and then Im oging to try burning the Cue file again. Last time I didnt edit it with Notepad as the directions from dvdrhelp.com said.

When burning in Nero with a menu, you have to press the track number for your movie to play, simply pressing "play" won't suffice.

                      One more question!

What do ya know it played (at least on my neighbors player ) When You make the menu with Nero... I get the properties for "Menu" and I should make this 0 seconds or 0 infinite? Same question for the properties of the video. I didnt really understand what to do there and I didnt right down what my selections were last time. It is only 1 video clip. Reply if you have a clue what I just said! Thanks

...The suggestion burning a CUE/BIN file works!!! Its full screen for some reason but I can figure that out later. Im just happy its working. But I still would like to do menus.

Menus in Nero and fairly simple and self-explanatory. The "seconds" to pause are simply how much black screen do you want between each track on your vcd, it doesnt apply to the menu, you have to select a track when you make a menu like i explained before. The only time you should use the pause is when you have multiple episodes/tracks on 1 cd. Then its good to have a pause, but when you have only 1 track, leave it at 0 or 1 secs, it takes up less space on the disc.

As for the bin/cue problems, make 'em with VCDEasy. Simple, and you can create chapters in your (s)vcd's as well.
