TMPGenc "Using the Encode Source Range" Feature

Im trying to use TMPGEnc to encode an Xvid file but I only want to encode certain sections of it. The problem im having is that the file is 23.9 or whatever it is for NTSC FIlm. Everytime i open the Source range feature it previews the movie at 30fps which makes the coresponding frames go to different parts of the movie. WHy does it do this and is there any way to change this?

Under the "Video" tab, have you set the Fps to 23.976Fps?

Yes, i set it to 23.976fps but it always comes up as 30fps no matter what i change the settings to.

Alternatively, you might try using TMPGEnc's "Merge&Cut":

let me explain a little more in detail what i was attempting to do. I have a copy of The Two Towers that is an XVID file. The movie has 2 spots where there are 2 or 3 bad frames. I went in and cut at keyframes like all of the guides say to do but my audio keeps getting out of sync. I don't really understand this because isn't the audio also getting removed from the selection that is being deleted? It seems like it should stay lined up.
Anyways, i thought i might be able to go in with the source range feature and just encode around the 2 bad spots and then merge as one file after that is finished.
There is an options button next to the source range feature but i can't get it to light up, im thinking this might be the reason i can't change the frame rate in that section. Any ideas?

For that certain version all you need is the ffdshow filter and it should work fine.

im not sure what you mean by " all i need is FFDSHOW filter" what will this do for me? Will it allow TMPGEnc to encode without locking up? Media player plays the file fine but when i run it in virtual dub there are 2 sections that bring up the error msg for bad frames or whatever.

The FFDShow filter will simply let you play back the movie without it crashing on you, but since you only now indicated that you can play succesfully in WMP then you must have it installed. As for the corrupted parts, it was simply a bad (rushed) rip , theres nothing you can do about it in VDub as it won't process the corrupt frames.

In tmpgenc however, the file will succesfully convert to whichever format you wish, without locking up.

thanks for the info but Tmpgenc won't encode past the parts that have bad frames. This is the first file ive ever had this happen with. The file plays fine when just opened with media player or any other video device. Im pretty sure i have all the proper codecs installed. TMPGEnc just says its performed an illegal action every time it gets to the section with the few corrupt frames. I went in with virtual dub and took out the part with bad frames but that has left me with audio out of sync in some sections. Its not too bad but im not too happy with it either. Guess theres not much I can do. Ive tried just about everything i can find on this forum and other video sites. Thanks for the help

One last stab at it:

Have you installed the FFDShow filter or not? I assumed you did because if not the file wouldn't play, but then again if you did install it tmpgenc should be able to convert the file with no problems. Search for ffdshow and install it. Then try converting again the original avi file. Let me know what settings and which template you use.

OK Im using

Ntsc FIlm
using original AVI for audio and video
aspect ratio 4:3 line NTSC
under advanced then video arranged method I click full screen keep aspect ratio because its set up with the back bars or wide screen look, so i want it to stay that way.
frame rate and everything else is left just like its auto set for Ntsc film

if it is a widescreen, then why is it 4:3? 4:3 is the exact size of most tv's (not HD). I believe that it should be 16:9.

You should change the 4:3 to to 16:9 since its a widescreen rip, and also because you have indicated you want it to stay that way. Everything else looks fine (and the full screen keep aspect ratio will indeed keep everything to a 16:9 wide ratio).

Its just a setting which you can change, it doesn't automatically select the ratio of the movie.

I had the same problem...

I scanned for video errors using virtaldub, and it came up with some bad frames, so I then selected audio-direct stream copy and video-direct stream copy and then saved the new avi.

Then I convert the audio to 4100 and save as .wav (from the new fixed avi)

Then I load the video file and the wave file and use Tmpgenc to encode in svcd mode.

I had previously split the 2x 720mb avi files into 4 files using
vdub-mp3 freeze as it came up with a vbr error. The last cds worked great, it was only the 1st one I had trouble with.

ps. the only way I have found to keep the black bars top and bottom to make the wide screen on my pal tv is to select in advanced settings
