Nero question

I have read on this forum that Nero will encode to vcd for you, I have found loss of quality and sound out of sync with this method, is this a common fault or am I doing something wrong, is this right or am I missing something? I ask cos I'm having so much hassle burning a vcd where the quality and the lip sync remains that I'm clutching at straws and hope I just have to tick a box and everything magically works,

You will notice a slight or bigger loss of quality when converting to svcd or vcd. However, you shouldn't be having audio synch problems, this is probably because you are converting with nero. Convert with TMPGenc, and only burn with nero.

You'll achieve consistently better results by using TMPGEnc to create the MPEG1-VideoCD file and then using NERO ONLY to burn as VCD (NOT convert, since you will have already done this with TMPGEnc)...

Thanks, I have used tmpeg to encode but now you've said that I've got a feeling Nero has been converting it back, will try it out and get back, thanks again.

you can know if nero reencodes it because it will take over an hour to burn... and only the top bar will be going ever so slowly.

Thanks everyone, I used tmpeg to encode with vdub for audio and nero just for burning and the sound is in sync, also the quality is an improvement too. Thanks again,

just a quick q

just downloaded nero 5050 demo version and found it work quite well. suprised my first attempt at converting m peg to vcd worked, however them nero encoded it takes bloody ages, will it be fatser if i bought the proper version. if so i will buy it as it works wells and easy to use. if not then why is it so slow

In my limited knowledge, and help from this forum I have had most success using Vdub to save the sound as wav, then Tmpegenc to encode the video and wav file, Nero then to just burn, nero is a lot quicker this way. Hope this helps.

sound problems

I am having problems with a certain divx film, when I save to wav with vdub and play it back, the sound goes in and out. I have tried direct stream copy but this makes no difference. can anyone advise? I have used gspot and it says I have the correct codec.

Not quite sure what in & out means. Whan you saved as *.wav, did you rename the file back to it's original extension?
e.g......If mp3, then rename to *.mp3.
Same for *.ac3

the sound keeps cutting on and off very fast. Normally I save as wav then use tmpeg to encode the video and said wav, I haven't renamed it back before, not sure what you mean, resave again with vdub? Thanks for your time.

The file is not actually a wav. VirtualDub just puts a *.wav extension on it. Windows thinks its a wav and that why the sound is all "in & out".

Rename the file to *.mp3 and convert it to wav with your favourite sound app. Besweet is what I normally use.
