    I'm a bit thick me

This may be a stupid question, you say rename to mp3, how? I'm not sure how to change the extension. Thanks again.

      For Win98
Open explorer and View/folder options. View again and untick "Hide file extensions"

      For WinXp
Open Explorer and Tools/folder options. View again and untick "Hide file extensions for known file types"

        ok

well, I've done that, and still not having much luck, I have just tried play the film in vdub(I had only saved wav before) and it says "no audio decompressor is availiable", I guess this is my problem, and I'm a bit stumped with that. Sorry if I've wasted your time.

I can't believe how much you have to do to get these films on cd, and each one presents new problems!

        Still it's a challenge, and I won't be defeated.

            here I am again

I do't spose anyone can tell me which audio decompressor I need? It's an avi file and it plays fine with media player but vdub won't decompress the audio. Have saved as wav, then changed extension (to mp3 orAC3?), then what do I do with it? Recycle bin comes to mind!
Any help would be appreciated thanks,

                ac3

Have downloaded ac3, when I put the source and target in and press start, it is over in seconds(story of my life) and no file appears to be saved? I got Lame with the nimo codecs, but I don't seem to be able to use it as a packeage, is this right? I also downloaded besweet but this wouldn't work without a gui(ac3), I'm not having a lot of luck at the moment, have scoured the forums and can find nothing relevant, help please,

I would also like to say thanks to everybody who has helped for their time and patience, this forum has been excellent.

                  AC3 -> WAV

                  1. Click Azid in the GUI
                  2. Click to find the azid.exe you downloaded
                  3. Click to find the ac3 (The file you renamed to *.ac3)
                  4. Click to pick a name and a place where you would like your wav stored
                  5. Set as defualt so you don't have to do this again
                  6. Press "AC3 to wav"

You could now easily use any app to convert to MP3
You can also transcode directly to MP3 with Besweet GUI but I could not find a screenshot.
                  Here's a guide.

                    success

Thanks edge, the pic really solved it,I never had azid, once I got that and followed your instructions I successfully converted the audio and burned my film to vcd, the picture seems a tiny bit jerky but other than that I'm well happy, thanks again for everyone's time and patience.

Also a side-note for burniing (S)VCD to a cd-r.. use a slower speed than maximum, about 16x that way you're making sure that your burner doesn't make any mistakes...
And 1 of the disadvantages is: it will take a few min longer... OOhhh.. that's a disaster
At every wedding my grandma's were poking me and saying 'You're next'. They stopped doing that when i started doing the same thing on funerals.
