It may be possible to "mux" mpeg video with ac3 audio, however the resulting file will not be playable on stand-alone dvd players.

If I am not mistaken don't some DVD players have AC3 decoders? Won't that do the trick?

My current DVD player will play everything except DivX and Xvid.

now it outputs the AC3 stream to my 5.1 decoder, regardless as to what type of file it's being extracted from, be it vod or mpg or dat.

But TMPGenc won't recognize the ac3 audio stream. i need a program that will mux a AC3 audio stream into a mpg/mp1 video file

        Thanx again

I was fixing to say I have a AC3 with Dolby Digital 5.1 and I hook it up to my Sony Reciever (which is my Dolby Decoder) and it will play AWESOME sound

Now what program my friend used to make the CD is beyond me I will try to find out and post it because it might help you

            Thanx.

From what i've read and looked at, it's a simple case of ripping the DVD and converting the Video stream into mpg, then as "batman" said, it's just a case of "mux"ing the two streams together.

After further looking into the TMPGenc mux abilities, it will multiplex the video and AC3 audio streams together.

but as, for some reason, i cant extract the ac3 stream outta the divx film i've got, and currently i've no way of testing this, well at least until i get another dvd rom. that way i can rip a dvd and try it.

            thanx

I believe that (as batman stated) you'll discover that your standalone DVD player will playback such a non-compliant VCD WITHOUT audio - due to the fact that .AC3 audio is not part of the VCD (or SVCD) standards...
