Encoding Speed vs Processor Speed

I am trying to determine how much a faster CPU would increase the time it takes TMPGenc to convert a DIVX AVI to a MPEG.

I am currently running an Intel P3/933mhz. If I went to a Intel P4/1.8ghz, what precentage would the processing difference be?

I'm having a 1.7GHz pentium with 256 Mb

It takes me roughly 1 hour to convert an 1 hour avi into an mpg .............and i keep surfing the net while converting

On my P3/933 mhz, I start off with a 45 min AVI file that was in DIVX format that I used VirtualDub to decompress the audio. The AVI became a 800mb file. This file takes about 4-5 hours to processs.

Does this seem normal?
