Getting the best quality, how ?

Ok Im currently using the new tmpgenc that just released today (28th) and would like to know what would be the best way to get the best quality out of my vcd, here is a couple of the files information...

    Divx file:

    Resolution 512x376

    Audio: 127kbps

video: 29fps, 114kbps data rate, 24bit samplerate, divx

    -------------------------------------

    Xvid file:

    resolution 512x384

    audio: 128kbps

    video: 29fps, 111kbps, 24bit , xvid

Thats just a few example's of the files, These are video that have been recorded from tv, most being 21 - 22minutes long (about 140mb) each. And I want to get the best quality posible but fit the most on each disc(vcd or svcd), what are the best settings to be changed in tmpgenc for the best quality? Also some of the files are of different resolution and bitrate.

Please help, im going crazy trying to figure out all of these expert settings

It takes alot of time for this judgement ...
i do my DivX from whatever they were encoded in and put them to 720 * 480 ntsc with 384 sound 5.1 if the program supports it (like dvd2svcd) which in the end is using Tmpgenc anyway for encoding ... with 29.97 fps non-interlaced depending on what your stand alone dvd player will support as far as kbps i use 2400 ... (P.S. I also use the highest processor priority, lol the mouse moves every about 5 seconds , when i am moving it constantly) sometimes i rip the audio out with Virtual dub as wav then repoint them together with tmpgenc sounds great if the audio was encoded into the divx with something wonky, I also use toolame.exe for my mpeg 1 audio layer 2 , this is just a bit of what i use I am always looking for tips also but this should get you started pretty much everything else I use is default ...

P.S. You will need a newer computer for this method or alot of time on your hands ... my method takes up 16 hrs depending on how much the movie has to stretch from the divx to mpeg2 or vob to mpeg2 or from 4/3 to 16/9 or whatever these all have to be taken into account if you want to try and judge the finish time

my complete process is Owned DVD(vob with DVD software installed powerXP for me)-->smartripper (vob on hard drive)-->tmpgenc (big ass mpeg2)-->tmpgenc tools (cut to fit cd)-->vcdeasy (to put mpg2 file to bin/cue as well as making chapters or intros)--> burn with vcdeasy also using nero plugin or burn with nero (for the nero plugin you need only have nero installed) ... i find Nero has less options but it is still purposely fine for doing the job also

Divx -->Virtual dub audio to wav -->tmpgenc (with divx 5.02 codec installed) load both wav and avi to tmpgenc--->tmpgenc (big ass mpeg2)-->tmpgenc tools (cut to fit cd)-->vcdeasy (to put mpg2 file to bin/cue as well as making chapters or intros)--> burn with vcdeasy also using nero plugin or burn with nero (for the nero plugin you need only have nero installed) ... i find Nero has less options but it is still purposely fine for doing the job also ltr

hopefully this starts some good readin.
