    Audioproblems - converting avi->mpeg1/2

    Hello.

I'm trying to use TMPGEnc for convertion, but I can't make the sound work...

If I try to convert from one avi file(with sound) the resulting mpeg1/2 file will be without sound. I have checked with g-spot that I have all codecs that I need, and the avi-file plays with sound.

I've read that it's smart to get the audio from a separate wav-file, so I used virtualdub to create a wav-file(using samplingrate 44100Hz). When I try to run TMPGEnc with the separate files I get this errormessage when I press 'Start' : "Write error occured at address 77F536F7 of module 'ntdll.dll' with 00000000".

I've tried several things, but without success..
Any advice will be gladfully accepted as I'm about to go crazy here..

    1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDub (or any of its variants) or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

The audiostream is probably in either .AC3 format or Variable Bitrate MPEG Layer 3 (VBR .MP3).

If it proves to be .AC3:

In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to the highest priority. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input...

If it proves to be VBR:

    Converting .AVIs with VBR-MP3 Audio

Simply use NanDub (or VirtualDubMod) to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file as follows:
Load your original .AVI into NanDub
Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"
Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Compression" and choose - and choose "No compression(PCM)"
From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save WAV" (Enter a new filename with a ".WAV" extender).Click on "OK"
Then save the .AVI as a silent .AVI (set "Audio" to "No audio" after you've saved the WAV file).
Open TMPGEnc and "drag and drop" the silent .AVI onto it, then do the same with the .WAV file

A screenshot with the file-information is attached.

It seems like the audio of the file I chose is vbr-mp3, so I followed your instructions there:

I used virtualDub(same as VirtualDubMod??) for saving the audio and video separate. When I loaded these files into TMPGEnc the same error-message as last time met me.

Another problem encountered(after doing these operations) witch I haven't seen for a while. The image were suddenly upside-down. I had this problem a while ago when I first installed NIMO, but after installing it again with less codecs the "upside-down-problem" disappeared... but now it's back(not just on this movie). Do you know a solution to this problem?

      Thanks.

For your VBR error if you see this either use NanDub or VirtualDubMOD which yes is different from VirtualDub.

About upside down video uninstall Nimo and install either Tsuanmi 3.9.9 which can be found in member name "UncasMS" picture, Or FFDShow

No, VirtualDub is not the same as VirtualDubMod - that's why I specifically said, "Simply use NanDub (or VirtualDubMod) to save the audio stream..."...

            Thanks

It seems to be working now!

Converted a file with vbr-mp3 audio, and that worked out fine after using virtualDubMod!

            Thanks!

                Still no ac3 sound

The audio still don't work when it is .ac3 format.

I did what you recommanded : Increased the "Direct Show Multimedia File Reader" to highest priority, and when I loaded the avi-file into TMPGEnc then the avi-file got added in the audio-file-field too(this didn't happend before). When I started the encoding it did some "counting" witch it has not done before, so I thought it were going to work... but there were no sound on the resulted file.

I have a suspicion that it might have something to do with my ac3-codec (even though I actually don't have a clue..).
I did as 'SKD_Tech' said : Uninstalled nimo and installed tsunami 3.9.9. After this everything seemed alright except that the sound on movies where there were ac3 sound didn't work. I then found an ac3-codec(0,68b) on http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tools.htm#codecs, and installed it. The audio on these movies than worked, but when I try G-Spot on a file it says that "audio codec is NOT installed"(see attached file).

Am I using a bad ac3-codec? Where can I find a better? Or is there something else that might be wrong?

There was a AC3 codec in the Tsuanmi Pack but you have to do a custom install. Uninstall Tsuanmi and the AC3 codec then reinstall it and use the custom setting and leave everything as is besides select to install the AC3 codec

                    yes!

Gspot still shows the same, but it worked.. so I'm happy. Thanks!

                    One more question :
I've read on some "help-page" that when the video format uses 23.976 Frames/sec I'm supposed to encode it in TMPGEnc as NTSC Film. 29,970fps -> NTSC. 25,000 -> PAL.
                    Is this important to follow?
It is no problem for me to follow this, but it would be more natural for me to always use PAL as i live in Europe..

You need to keep the same frame rate. So a 29.97 after encoding should be 29.97 NOTHING ELSE otherwise things get screwed up beyond belief

I am having the same problems, it says it detects VBR audio, and I just downloaded VirtualDubMod 1.5.1.1a But I have no "Audio" section, all I see across the top menu is the following tabs:
[file] [edit] [video] [streams] [options] [tools] [help] //

                          Am I doing something wrong?

I only made my first VCD last week using TMPGenc , and that turned out awesome after acouple of tries..

When I load it in, it says:
Virtual Dub has detected an improper VBR audo encoding in this AVI file (stream 1)

                          ..then heaps of stuff....

Do you still want to rewrite header?

                          Any help will be great!!

                          Thanks

                            wrong version?

I tried version 1.5.1.1a first, but didn't find the audio section either. It should proably be there somewhere, but I don't know where..
If you install the previous version of VirtualDubMod it's easier to find it there! You'll find it under the AVI section.

                            ---

Is there an audio section in the newest version of VirtualDubMod?
