Audio-Video lost sync with TMPGenc and Virtualdub

    Hi everybody from Madrid.

This is my first message in this forum, so I hope I'm making the question in the right place

I have a problem encoding VCD with TMPGenc. I first extract the audio to a wav file using VirtualDub, and then use TMPGenc wizard to encode PAL VCD. I think I'm following the right steps, but once finished, I notice that audio and video have lost sync.

It used to work when I encoded my first films, but I don´t know what has happened now. (In fact I think it used to work until I installed Graphedit on my PC, but I'm not sure if it has anything to do)

    Could anybody help me please?

    Thanks a lot.
    Best.

    Bienvenido Dwarf_vcd!!

the freeware program bbmpeg will allow you to fix minor sync problems . It can be obtained at the software section of this site.

By the way .... are you sure that your extracted audiofile
is a wav file???? or did you just use the SAVE WAV option in virtual dub???this only works if the audio stream in the avi container has been
    in wav format already!!
or was it even of AC3 format or ogg?

    good luck!

      Thanks a lot shiny#3.

In case the original audio in the avi container is not a wav file (and in fact I think it isn't) How should I extract the audio into a wav file?
I have also extracted the audio using Goldwave (saving as a 44100 resampled wav), but I have the same out of sync problems.

I'll try to find the SW section

      Thanks again.

        very strange!!!

the golwave should have done the job correctly

if you like to stick to virtual dub I suggest that you "upgrade" to
"Virtualdub mod" that has an demux option.

this means that you simply extract the audiostream as it is
and then you can process on it with an external audio encoder
to create a wave file out of it.

I have not tested it with the newest release of virtualdub mod,
but have heard that this new virtualdubmod is also able
to do it within one process.

but I have noticed that Uncas has gathered experience with that
        new version of vituladub mod.
maybe it is a good idea to ask him directly.

          bbmpeg

          Hi again.

Now I've got bbmpeg, Is it possible to select a different audio source from the one that comes multiplexed with the video?

          Thanks a lot again

To perhaps gain some additional insight regarding your problem, would you do the following?:

            1) Load the video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

            2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

            3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

yes it is possible. in mpeg output settings-->in and output files
with the "open as 1" browse to your external audio file
but you should load a videostream only not a multiplexed one of course.( in this case)
I guess I have a vague idea of what you are trying to do but I
              am not absolutly sure!!!

Your file information indicates that the audio is in CBR (Constant Bitrate) .MP3 format.

                  1) There is NO reason to extract and convert this audiostream. Just load the ORIGINAL .AVI into TMPGEnc for conversion

                  2) The rather odd resolution (736X560) might be "fouling things up" under TMPGEnc. You might want to click on the "Advanced" tab, change the "Video arrange method" to "Center (custom size)" - and enter 720x 576

Just curious - Does the original .AVI play properly synchronized from beginning to end?

Here I am again... I succesfully encoded (as you suspected )with TMPEGenc with no extra audio extraction, using the avis as the video/audio source.

                        Now I have another question

Using VirtualDub 1.5.3 I open an avi file. Here I post the '¿error?' message with the file information screen:

How should I go on now?
                        Thanks again.

                          Converting .AVIs with VBR-MP3 Audio

Simply use NanDub (or VirtualDubMod) to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file as follows:
Load your original .AVI into NanDub
Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"
Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Compression" - and choose "No compression(PCM)"
From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save WAV" (Enter a new filename with a ".WAV" extender).Click on "OK"
Then set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
Then save the .AVI as a silent .AVI (set "Audio" to "No audio" after you've saved the WAV file).

Then close NanDub and restart it
                          Set "Audio" to "No audio"
                          Load your silent .AVI
Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
Under "Audio" click on "WAV Audio" and load your .WAV
Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Compression" and choose the appropriate .MP3 settings. Click on "OK"
From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" and save your file with a new filename.

Thanks a lot Setarip. It perfectly worked for the four films I encoded yesterday (I used VirtualDub to set the avis ready and TMPGenc to encode them to PAL VCD)
