Possible to take a subtitle file and put on a mpg file ?

I got a lovely movie in english - in mpg format - so i was thinking of burning it to a dvd.
but i also got the subs in a seperate file (the sub files you find on the net).
Anyone know if i can combine this 2 things ?

If u have a .avi with a .sub (eg. video.avi and video.sub) the subtitle will be ripped with the movie. I've tested this using the TMPGEnc

OK... My english not is so good, but I'll try

        - Get the software: www.tmpgenc.net
        - Unzip the file
        - Isn't a instalation, so run the program - TMPGEnc.exe
        - Don't use the wizard, or use if u think that is mor easy
        - On the botton of the interface, browse for the "Video source" (forget the "Audio source" if your file is video+audio)
        - "Output file name"... u know what is this ... choose one name and destination
        - "Stream type" - System (Video+Audio)
        - Click "Setting" > Video tab... I use this: www.nucleod.com.br/mpg.jpg... after this, click "OK" (duh! hehehehehehe...)
        - Click "Start" (top of the interface)
        - Well... wait, be patient... Your .mpg will have the subtitle riped in the movie
        - Be sure that the .avi and the .sub are on the same folder, with the same name (eg. movie.avi and movie.sub)

Well, I newbie too... this is a start, I think... there are other settings better than this... I'm looking for websites with tutorials and more information too

        Good lucky
