    @setarip
    I'm trying to burn a *S*vcd so I've adapted (as an expert!) some things, such as MPEG2 stream and video dimensions... let's see results after nap!

        1) "should this generated MPEG has audible audio on PC?
        (my one has no sound but I can see on VirtualDub there is an audio stream there)"

        2) GSpot indicates that your file contains an ordinary Constant Bitrate (CBR) .MP3 audiostream.

        Do you have an .MP3 codec installed on your system?

        If not, download and install the Radium .MP3 codec.

        If you do have an .MP3 codec installed on your system, it would then appear (based on the error message generated by VirtualDubMOD) that the audiostream is flawed...

          Great!!! Now I have audible audio on generated MPEG! Thanks setarip!

          Yes, I have MP3 codec.
          I can see and listen to all videos I have with no problem... this happens only on VirtualDubMod (a bunch of videos that works fine on players make VDM to issue audio problems - that's why I've used BeSweet many times to convert audio) - therefore I don't think they are flawed.
          (please let me know if it's not so logical as I'm thinking)

          [...] going back now to the original problem: burn the generated 750Mb MPEG2 on a 700Mb CD...

          btw, will this 480x480 video fit well on TV screen???

            My pleasure ;>}

            "going back now to the original problem: burn the generated 750Mb MPEG2 on a 700Mb CD..."

            If the file is in compliant MPEG-2SuperVideoCD format, you'll be able to fit 35-40 minutes (SVCD is NOT based on filesize, rather running time) on one CD

            "btw, will this 480x480 video fit well on TV screen???"

            It will be adapted for proper display be your standalone DVD player (if it's capable of playing burned SVCDs)

              No problem burning the generated 750MB MPEG2 on a 700MB CD using Nero: it's 55:29 long and allocated about 665MB on SVCD!

              Seems my LG DVD player is incompatible with SVCD once I receive the only message "change disk".

              I'm sure it's compatible with VCD so I'm going to reencode it again for VCD and burn then I'll post data here just for complete info and conclusions on this thread.

              Thanks for all the teaching I'm getting thru this thread!

                  Sure? I understood VCD must be CBR... and only CBR can have bitrate set manually.

                    Conclusion about primary reason for this thread so far:
                    - Nero estimates final size, encodes and burn well by itself when working on VCD;
                    - it mistakenly estimate final size when working on SVCD *if* a reencode is needed (as I reencoded original file thru TMPGEnc first, it estimated well the space really used).

                      Now you've hurt my feelings...

                      (First set the bitrate to 1,150kbps, then set the mode)

                          just completing:

                          The same AVI (originally 680MB - 55'28") was reencoded to MPEG1-VCD compatible ending in a 555MB MPG file that was burned and ended in a 491MB VCD.

                          It's incredible: the final burned CD of 491MB has a file AVSEQ01.DAT (supposed to be the video) of 560MB! @:| (how can I understand the VCD format?!)

                          Anyhow, problems reported on this thread were solved with some acrobatics!

                          thanks once again... see you on next thread!

                            Did you or did you not successfully create a VCD that plays back on your standalone DVD player?

                              I did...
                              VCD played well on my DVD player;
                              SVCD didn't (I guess the problem is my DVD player compatibility and not on the SVCD media)
