    small squares all over mpeg

I am trying to convert a movie from avi to mpeg. I tried to use TMPGEnc Plus version 2.58.44.152. It told me the file was not a true AVI and was not able to convert it, the same with WinMPG. I used WinMPG to convert from "all to AVI". It split the audio and video and tried to rejoin them unsuccessfully. I was able to use the split files on TMPGE and convert them to MPEG successfully, but wound up with these irritating blocks all over the screen. I have tried this process with several movies using different bitrates and fps settings. Some movies turn out great, others have the same result.

    note:
the separated video file plays fine once i get past the idiot alert telling me there's no audio.

I have tried Real One and Media player 9, same result with both.

    one additional question:
Is there a program that doesn't take ten years to convert files?

    1) Load the ORIGINAL video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

I loaded in virtual dub but I don't understand what I'm supposed to do...just describe what I see? How do I capture a screen image?
The video was a lot cleaner in virtual dub, but the blemish is still there. It just blends better. It looks like just a low quality video although the original is great and the mpeg is over 2 gigs.

I asked that you load and provide the information from the ORIGINAL file, which is in .AVI format. You've provided the information from the converted-to MPEG file...

I already have every playback codec imaginable, including xvid.

It says the xvid codec it needs is different. Where do I find that?

Apparently you don't have the XviD codec INSTALLED

                    2) Again, download and install BOTH an XviD codec and the FFDShow filter...

Regardless of the audio stream, the avi plays fine, video and audio.

Why does the problem only occur in the mpeg, and how does the audio track affect the video playback?
