    Mpg editing

Hey i got my conversion going alot faster. thanks tp the forum help, i cant believe its faster to go asf>avi then avi>mpg, than just asf>mpg, but anyway. One of my mpg files is 730MB and one is 400MB so obviously i would like to make it so part on fits on a cd. 2 questions, firstly, does a vcd have to be a 650MB cd or is a 700MB okay? secondly, whats the best program to cut the last 30MB of part one and add it to the start of part 2. i seen a few editing/cutting/joining programs in the software section, but most were for avi, can it be done with a mpg? if so, what software

    Thanks in advance

VCDs are based on TIME (similar to music CDs), not Filelength. You may be able to fit as much as 75-80 minutes of a VCD on 700 Meg (80 minutes) CD-R.

      still need to cut/edit

Well i still need to cut the last bit of part one to the beginning of part 2, would it be easier to do that in the avi or mpg format? preferably mpg, but either way. Any suggestions?

Since you already have the MPEG1 files, it would be a waste of time (and would probably result in a reduction of quality) to compress the files as DivX .AVIs - and then have to reconvert them to MPEG1-Video CD format.

        Using TMPGEnc:

        1) File>>MPEG Tools>>Cut&Join
        2) Set mode to MPEG1-Video CD
        3) Load File #1
        4) Load File #2
        5) Enter a new filename in "Output" for the joined file
        6) Press "Run"
        7) Delete the names of File#1 and File#2 from the input screen
        8) Select the joined filename for input
        9) Change "Output" filename, for example, to "Part1of2VCD.mpg"
        10) Doubleclick on joined filename
        11) Drag slider approximately to midpoint and click on "}"
        12) Click on "Run" button
        13) When "Part1of2VCD.mpg" is finished, change output filename to "Part2of2VCD.mpg"
        14) Once again, doubleclick on joined filename
        15) Copy time from right side window to left side window
        16) Drag slider to the far right end and click on "}"
        17) Click on "Run" button - Exhibit patience this time (Seeking midpoint video and audio takes a bit of time)
You should now have two equal MPEG1-Video CD files ready for burning to CD-Rs as VCDs.

        Let us know of your success ;>}
