    codecs

Is there any way to find out what codec you need for your avi file? I have a file that says it is unsupported in every tool I try and put it in - some say its asf, but asftool does not recognize it. there must be new codec out there for this type of file

I thought it was an ASF because that is what virtualdub tries to load it as....

Does that codec support WMV2 and MP4S- because that is what the error message virtualdub 1.c gives when you try and load the file - that they can't locate the decommpressor for those formats.

      tmpgenc won't accept it all.

I've never had this problem before. Do you know where to get the new WMA8 codec?

Alot of people must be having this same problem. Any movie I seem to download lately I can't encode with the same exact problem.

the new wmv codecs u can download at microsofts download section, just search for "codec"

for other codecs (avi specially) u should search for the codec packages on this site (www.divx-digest.com), i think there are some nice like Tsunami Codec Package or so

I literately have every codec installed, (krystal, tsunami, divx4, smr, wmv8-the new one). NOthing works. I'm totally stumped ath the moment, and this is every file I download recently that has this problem. That is why I believe there is a new codec out there

With divx4 you also mean the divx 4.12 ?????????

Can you load the file and play it in VDub (in that case look under file information)

Also a prog called AVInfo should give (maybe) a little bit more info on the codec

Or maybe you can change the fourcc codec with a prog called AVI FourCC codec changer

Just some idea's to help you on the way

When you load in virtualdub it says cant find decompressor for WMV2 or MP4S. And it starts loading them as an ASF files.

I tried changing the CC code and that didn't work at all.

AVInfo crashes when you try and look at the files info with it.

                Any other suggestions?

                  Beats me

                  Okay one more then:
Rebuild index with divxfix (you see i'm also desperate )

And what if you rightclick on the file and look at properties? also "format unknown" (both audoi and video)?

when you try and load the file into divxfix, it says it is not an AVI file.

when you look at properties, it says it is avi, but when you go to details, it say the file must be corrupted or in an unsupported format. They all say that

                    see why I'm so frustrated???

                      Heh, I've seen this too

I've had the same experience, but it was different on two computers. I was running Media Player on this old computer at work, and it automaticly downloaded the codec from Microsoft, but when I tried to open the same file on my laptop, Media Player attempts to download a (some) codec, and it's not the right one. The only thing I get is audio.

i ve had a nice prob last time, my original microsoft codecs were somehow overwritten by other codecs, think the reason was the install of tsunami codec package (it overwrote radium mp3 too with some shit advanced version, although I TOLD THAT SHIT DAMN CODEC PACK NOT TO DO THAT)

i ve solved that by deinstalling radium, reinstalling windows media codecs and then reinstalling divx 3.11 & 4.12 and radium mp3

i couldnt open my mpeg4 v2 (original microsoft codec videos) any more with media player, but worked fine with other progs.
