    how to subtitle with nero?

    Hi;
    I intend to convert a divX file ( AVI) to SVCD ( VCD if I could not burn it on one CD), using Nero 6,

    I believe Nero can do that, no idea if quality is better than other methods,
    but I have no idea how to handle the subtilte,

    I want to burn the SVCD with subtitle.

    I have the subtitle file,in .srt format,

    the divX file plays fine with subtitle using Crystal player.

    anyone know how to do this?

    appreciate your reply,

    First of all, make sure your DVD player can render a SVCD subtitle by checking it out at http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers

    If it can, Nero won't help you over there. You need to use some SVCD-specialised tools such as VCDEasy/VCDImager.

    If it cannot, that means you will have to encode your MPEG with the subtitles. They will then be part of the movie and will not be "removable".

    You can use VirtualDub and VobSub.dll to generate (frameserve) and new AVI which is going to be your source with your subtitles incrusted in the image. You can take this opportunity to use the nice resize filters in VirtualDub to make the resolution of your movie the reso of a SVCD (480x480 or 480x576).

    I would recommend encoding your MPEG-2 stream with TMPGEnc rather than Nero. TMPGEnc is an excellent encoder.

      how to burn vcd with chapter

      Thank you pieroxy for the reply, well yes you are right, Nero is not the way,
      I have searched and finally I have used DVD2sVCD ( and TMPGEnc) to convert the Xvid ( sorry I mentioned Divx in my post) file to VCD with subtitle, every thing is OK, and plays fine,

      now I want to burn the VCD file as VCD on Disk, I tried to do it using VCDEasy 1.1.7.2 free version, but could not handle big file, it seems free version can be used for certain file size, Anyway if I use Nero to burn VCD then I cann't make chapter and without chapter you can not fastforward , I could not find such a feature in Nero.

      Anyone know any other burning method to burn VCD that has chapter feature on it?

      Thanks for repy.

        Thank you pieroxy for the reply
        You are welcome

        VCDEasy has always worked for me. I made chapters out of a MPG file that weighted 800MB. Is yours bigger than that?

          Thanks for the reply;

          well the file in mpeg format is 544 mb,
          when try to add the file from " main" tab in VCDEasy it tells me free version can not accept file more than 400 mb.

          maybe I am not doing it in the right way.

          the file attatched is snap shot of that.
          thanks.

            It's been too long I didn't use this one , I thought it was still free. So I guess you can:

            1. Buy it.
            2. Try an earlier version of VCDEasy, which was entirely free. I have version 1.0.7 and I don't remember any limitations. There may be more recent free versions.

                I believe fun88 means that he cannot fast forward onto a specific part of the movie conveniently, like chapter does. Fast forward usually works for SVCD on standalones, but it is sluggish and pretty slow. An SVCD with no chapter then becomes a pain in the &%$^* to handle when you want to see the last 5 minutes.

                fun88, Is that the problem, or can't you fast forward at all?

                  Thank you for repy;

                  that was my concern before burning one file, anyway I burned the converted VCD file using EasyVCD, on the chapter section i did change nothing, and the result came out good, now it does fast forward, rewind. everything fine,

                  my prooblem now is the subtitle for another file ( one of the 5 files of a tv serie Shogun) which I have made another post under
                  "DVD2VCD Error while converting avi to vcd " I tried to convert it using TMPGEnc , but it did not show any subtitle, so I tried to use DVD2VCD, which gave me error and conversion did not go through.

                  anyway if you know what is the problem please read my post and post a solution there, I am very greatful for that.

                  thanks
