Sound Problem Tempgenc & virtualdub

every time i extract a soundfile from avi 2 wave,and then use the wave file in tempgenc,i get a very metallic sound on the movie i convert from avi 2 vcd,does anybody know how to fix this problem?There is nothing wrong with the wave file,it is only after it has been converted to mpeg/vcd.If anybody could tell me the exact parameters in tempgenc for converting avi2mpeg,and the exact parameters when extracting wave from avi with virtualdub,then maybe i could get rid of this sound problem..Can anyone help???
