divx to mpg + permanently subtitles

Is there any way to reencode from divx(avi) to mpg(vcd) and to permanently encode subtitles like .srt or sub with it, so the movie can be watched on dvd-players like vcd + subtitles encoded directly on it.

With which program do I do that?
    Tnx in advance!

I do this with DVD2SVCD. Choose AVI to SVCD and load your avi file. In the subtitles tab, click rip subtitiles and check permanent subs. If you want to burn to 1 cd only, change all number of cds to 1 in the bitrate tab. If the quality is suffering, select 2pass VBR, high quality in the encoder tab. This will result in extremely long encoding times, 24 h or so. If you want to, change audio from 192 to 128 to get slightly better video quality. In the conversion-tab, click the green check-button, click add external subtitile stream. After you click the green check-button to convert, check the forced subs-checkbox in the popup window before you press "Ok".
