    Can AVI Be Re-formated?:(

First I would like to say thank you to everyone!!! After reading several threads yesterday I was able to burn my first movie from AVI using TMPEnc.

I am now faced with a bunch of non-burnable avi files. Most of them under properties say things like MPEG layer-356 kbits/ 24.000 stereo ect...So TMPEng says it can not open or un-supported format

When I play them on WMP they work fine.I have d/l a bunch of these using Morphues and it is impossible to know what they will be. So can I re-format them so that I can burn them? If so could you please tell me how? Could you also make the explaination for the extremely dumb LOL I am haveing a hard time understanding all of this!!
Again thank you for making such a nice BB and to everyone who has taken the time to post such great comments

    Take care

Maybe it works if you use VirtualDUBs frameserver. Start AuxSetup (in the VirtulaDUB-directory) and click on "install handler". Start VD and open the avi. Adjust video (size, framerate...) and audio (frequency, stere/mono...). Select "file->start frameserver". Click on "start" and after that select a filename (like c:\clip.avi). Now you should be able to open that avi (c:\clip.avi) in TMPGEnc.
    don't trust in guides

"Most of them under properties say things like MPEG layer-356 kbits/ 24.000 stereo ect...So TMPEng says it can not open or un-supported format"

If, in fact, the only problem is that the audiostream settings are too low, simply load the file into VirtualDuB and:

        1) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"

        2) Set "Audio" to "Full processing mode"

        3) Under "Audio", click on "Conversion". Select 44,100 and 8bit.

        4) Under "Audio", click on "Conversion". Select MP3. if nothing shows up in the righthand pane, put a checkmark in "Show all formats". Select MP3 and any of the 44,100 choices (96-320)

        5) Save your .AVI with a new name

        Let us know of your success ;>}

What does all of this mean?
Are you looking for MP3 in VirtualDub or on the Internet?
You've decided to download a newer version of what?
Anyway to keep WHAT still compressed?

Sorry I was really tired and excited OK

I d/l the lastest version of Virtualdub due to the fact that I could not find all the settings you were suggesting...

              Problems

"4) Under "Audio", click on "Conversion". Select MP3. if nothing shows up in the righthand pane, put a checkmark in "Show all formats". Select MP3 and any of the 44,100 choices (96-320)"

But I am unable to find how to set this?

About the compression...last night when I tried to do it without the mp3 set..it said it had to uncompress the file and went insane and used the 3G left on my computer and stopped due to the fact that it ran out of room,
So I tried it again and all when well and it did not try to claim all of my space LOL
So I got it re-formatted in VD and it thru TMPGEnc and it errored out at 99% saying it could not format the audio decompression.

So here is the funny part. I burned it anyway and it played fine in the DVD....

Sorry again about being so obtuse

It sounds like you don't have an MP3 codec (or ANY audio compression codecs) installed on your system. If I am correct, download and install the Radium MP3 codec.
