Widescreen Divx -> VCD

Hi all, I'm fairly new to this to apologies if this seems dumb. I'm trying to burn an AVI to a VCD using Nero. First time around I used Nero all on it's own, I just dropped the avi in, let it encode and away we went. This worked well BUT my original DivX was widescreen, it seems Nero squishes it to fit so I end up with a lot of tall thin people in the movie!

I'm now trying again using TMPGEnc to encode it first but the same thing seems to be happening. I'd rather maintain the aspect ration and watch it in "letterbox" format on the TV, can I do this?

Under "setting" in TMPGEnc, there is an option for changing/maintaining the aspect ratio.
