    Divx to Avi?? (Long)

Please do not flame... I have used the search function to try to solve my little problem, but that was no help.

Hi. I am new to this board. In addition, I am a newbie to all this encoding stuff. I am pretty lost. I got my DSL 2 days ago, and I have started downloading movies off of Kazaa. I have downloaded a few movies, and I have sucessfully encoded it with Avi2Vcd to play on my standalone DVD player.

However, I am experiencing problems encoding this particular avi file with DivX codec. I have tried using Avi2Vcd, Nero, TMPGEnc and to encode this file but it doesn't work. All that resulted from these programs are black screens with audio -- there is no video playback at all.

The clip properties of this avi file are:

    Image
    Width: 352 pixels
    Height: 240 pixels

    Audio
    Duration 0:54:01
    Bit Rate: 55kps
    Audio Format: MPEG Layer-3

    Video
    Frame rate: 14 frames/second
    Data rate: 47kbps
    Video sample size: 24 bit
    Video compression: DivX codec

Futhermore, the log file of Avi2Vcd indicated this error:

    DirectShow DETAILS:
***WARNING*** Codec reported invalid TimePerFrame = 0!

Any help guys? And, I have WinXp Pro and I have DivX 5.0 Bundle installed on this computer (if this helps).

And one last question, is it suppose to take 4-6 hours encoding an avi file that is about 60 minutes long with Avi2Vcd? I have an AMD 1.4ghz with a 256MB stick of Crucial DDR PC2100.

    Thanks a lot.

Yes, this file plays correctly in Windows and there are no frozen frames.

i encountered the same problem and i guess i know what the problem is .. instead of using DIVX 5 PRO .. use Divx 4.12 .. i did exaclty the same thing .. i installed divx 5 pro and when i tried to convert my avi file to mpeg .. all i got was a blank screen .. i don't exaclty know why this happens .. maybe incompatibility issues of Divx 5 to the other enconding programs??!?

anyway, just uninstall DivX 5 and use DIVX 4.12 instead ..

Thanks a lot guys. It was really the wrong codec I was using! You guys are the coolest!!! Btw, I'm buzzed right now!! Just had a quarter of a bottle of Remy -- the cheap one, the green bottle kind.
