    Compress MPEG files

Can someone recommend a program that lets me compress mpeg files?

Not zip or archive. I want to make the video smaller without losing too much picture quality. I'm sure it's going to lose a little.

I'm wanting to make them about 600MB or the biggest they can but so I can fit a whole movie on a single VCD.

    Thank you.

    Hi Holly P

You can use TMPGEnc Plus to convert your file from mpeg-2 to mpeg-1 format and then create VCD with Nero. This software comes with trial period for you to try out:

    TMPG,TMPGEnc,TMPG Inc., Pegasys,TMPGEnc Plus 2.5,TMPGEnc Plus,MPEG,MPEG-1,MPEG-2,digital,encoder,decoder,DVD,MPEG,video,movies,movie,converter,DVD-Video,VCD,SVCD,Video CD,AVI

converting it to mpeg-1 will make the file smaller?

I don't think you understand my question. I know how to make a VCD. I'm just wanting to make the mpeg file smaller so I can put it on a single CD-r and not have to split the movie into 2 cd-rs

what you want to do is make a kvcd (non standard VCD). a standard VCD will only hold 80 min, so the size doesn't matter. see here how to do it. you will have to take your time and read it thoroughly. it's not hard.
