    Hi !
Sorry I don't have the answer to your problem, but I've a similar problem with encoding avi files to the mpeg Vcd-format. I can convert the video succesfully but if i want to look it, I can hear sound but not the see the video. I've already tried converting with TMP-Enc Plus 2.53, but there's the same Problem. Please help me, I've tried all, installed thousands of codecs....isn't working !
    Thanks

It is likely that the .AVI (which, I'm guessing, you've downloaded) contains a Variable Bit Rate (VBR)-MPEG3 audiostream, rather than a Constant Bit Rate (CBR)-MPEG3 audiostream. Or it may contain an AC3 audiostream. These inappropriate-for-VCD-conversion formats are likely what is yielding a video-only file.

If you care to check further, do the following:

      Load the .AVI into VirtualDub

From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File information"

Post (here) EVERYTHING listed (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

        To Steff484

Your .AVI was probably encoded using the recently released DivX v.5.0 video codec - which TMPGEnc (and probably, other similar) cannot presently handle...

          Hi !
Cool, you're right and my new Digital Video God
After I read your message, I immediately tried to convert an AVI file, encodet with the Cinepark Codec, to an mpg file and it works. But that's shit, that means that I can't convert avi's encodet with DivX5 to mpg. Isn't there a plugin for TMP-Enc or Video Pack 5 to be able to transform also avi files codet with the new cool DivX ?? Do you know where I could leech it ? I'm searching.....
          thanks a lot !!!

To circumvent this issue, conver the divx 5.0 file to another divx codec version such as divx 3.11 alpha or divx 4.x---TMPGEnc will recognize these divx files, and you can create a vcd.

              Hi !
OK, that's an idea. But when i'll install an older version of DivX, it does overwrite my new one registered Pro edition, isn't it ?? I need the DivX 5 pro to encode DVD's in better quality and so I can't work without it !
Thanks a lot for the highspeed answers, you are cool !

Installing divx 3.11 alpha will have no adverse affect. While divx 5.0 is considered an improvement over divx 4.x, many people, including myself, would assert that divx 3.11 alpha remains the best codec---in terms of quality and compression.
