Trouble converting DivX 5 avi

I am trying to convert a film from DivX avi to VCD, the problem is when I use Virtual Dub to extract the Audio file to wav I get this error:

"Virtual Dub Error. The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. Check that the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format."

I am using the usual settings to convert the Audio...

The File information for the Film is:

Is the problem that the film has been made using DivX 5 codec?
I have DivX5, 3.11 and 4.12 all loaded on my machine.

Does anyone know of away to convert this film to VDC?

"Compression Unknown (tag 2000)"

This is indicative of an AC3 audiostream, which the "regular" versions of VirtualDub cannot process.


Load the .AVI file into VirtualDub 1.4C-AC3, set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying" and select (under "File") "Save .WAV/.AC3" - and save as .AC3 (IMPERATIVE to save as .AC3!).

Despite the fact that .AC3 file extracted using VDub-AC3 doesn't play properly, PX3AC3Converter will do a perfect job of converting it to .WAV format.

Thanks for your reply. I cannot find the option to save as wav/ac3 in virtual dub. I am using version 1.4.8

AS I indicated in my previous post, "regular" versions of VirtualDub cannot process .AC3 audiostreams. This would include v.1.4.8.

I also indicated above, "Load the .AVI file into VirtualDub 1.4C-AC3"...
