sound quality

I'm somewhat new to the ripping and converting process so this may be a stupid question. I've been using CladDVD XP and TMPGEnc to convert to MPEG 1 files for VCDs and have been satisfied with everything but the fact that I loose the suround sound and only get stereo. Is there a way to keep the suround sound or is that not possible with MPEG 1 files?

MPEG1-VideoCD does not support SurroundSound...
