    SVCD Mpeg in Windows XP

    Why ís it that I can play my normal VCD mpegs in XP's Media player, but not the SVCD Mpegs?? Anyone have any thought or suggestions?? It will not download them automatically and I do have that option checked in the internet settings..

    By the way, Im using the XP Prof Editin in case that matters..

    This is normal that WMP won't accept your mpeg-2 files. It simply doesn't play svcd's. I downloaded an svcd patch for my media player, and now it works fine (although at first it still says "looking for codec, error finding codec, etc...). I don't remember where i got the patch from, but search for it on www.google.com "svcd patch windows media player" should find some results, if not then broaden the search. Or, you can try an alternative and download WMP 9 series. Very nice and works fine. Not sure if it cah handle mpeg-2's (before the patch of course), but worth a shot. If you do get it, create a restore point in case you want to go back to your previous version of WMP. Hope this helps

      If you install one of the DVD players like PowerDVD or WinDVD it should be able to play them using their filters.

        I found a SVCD patch useing google.com adn installed it. Media player works fine with no error messages.
