    AVI file splitting

Hi hi I have this DivX 3.11 MPEG-3 audio AVI file that I want to split into several parts. All of the guides say that it's best to split only on keyframes, or there is a risk of corruption, etc, right? However I want to cut the file in places that are not a keyframe. I have tried this, and it doesn't cause any playback problems, at least on my PC.

So my question is, would there be any possibility of the new files giving playback problems on other PCs, given that they run fine on mine? Also, how important is it that I cut a file on a keyframe? Is this just to avoid "possible" problems? Or did I just get lucky this one time? Thx ...

It is NOT POSSIBLE to cut the video on any other positions than keyframes without reencoding al teast a part of the video.

The keyframe is a frame that contains a whole picture. All following non-key-frames only contain the difference to the keyframe. If the keyframe ist deleted all the following non-key-frames are useless.

Most avi-programms (like VirtualDUB) automaticly cut at the next keyframe even if you choose too cut at an other frame.
    don't trust in guides
