best way of doing 2 pass encoding?

    hi

i have been using flaskmpeg and 4.01 codec with a constant bitrate and two passes and have got some good results, but can anyone recommend a better way?

for instance is there any way u can get a program to do the second pass immediately after the first rather than having to do two seperate encoding sessions?

    thanx for any advice

nandub does the thing you are talking about. you set the encoding parameters and set it to do two passes. it then creates the stats file and after it is done it starts encoding.

but the 4.02 codec should not be used with nandub (i don't think nandub even cares if the codec is installed). you can use the divx 3.11 alpha codec instead.

i've been using this method and have had some beautiful results on 2 cd movies.

    happy encoding!

You shoud try GordianKnot, it will let you do divx4 2-pass with virtualdub or SBC with nandub, and also do the audio encoding and mux, all in one go. Takes about 10 minutes to confugure, the job though.

There a great guide and all in one installer at www.doom9.net

thanx people, i'll give nandub a try

is it possible to have divx 4.01 and 3.11A installed on the same system concurrently? i have divx 4.01 movies that i want to be able to play as well as 3.11 ones.

Why are you still using divx 4.01 when 4.11 has been out for a while now?

You can use virtual dub to do two passes. Look up nicky's guides on this web site. It has a guide on doing two pass encoding using virtual dub. it works really well
