after reading the resizing tutorial i still don't know if i should use 1.85:1 or 1.80:1 for determining the right height of the picture.
e.g. i have a dvd with an anamorphic picture of 720x576. if i want to see it the way a dvd player would show it on the screen i have to push it to the right aspect ratio.
if i take 1.85:1 this means i have to resize it to 720x384. then i have to cut out the horizontal bars. they use 25% of the height, so i cut the 384 to 288. i then cut out the bar at left, so i get a final size of 704x288. this is an aspect ratio of 2.44. but i thought the resulting picture without any bars should be in 2.35:1 format, not 2.44:1? or isn't this relevant?
i tried the whole thing with 1.8:1 in step 1. i resize the picture to 720x400. then cut out 25%, get 720x300, cut out the 16 pixel vertical bar and end with 704x300. this gives 2.35 as aspect ratio. so should't this be the propper resolution? or is it more important to be close to 1.85:1 in step 1 instead of 2.35:1 in the final picture?
