    DTS/DD 5.1 compression

Does anyone know if it's possible to compress the AC3 5.1 stream to MP3 or similar? Using 3 mp3 streams maybe? Failing that, how big is an AC3 stream on average (size per hour?) - would it be feasible to just strip the AC3 from the dvd and mux it with divx4 compressed video?

    Cheers,
    Alex

    of course both is possible

decoding ac3 to mp3 (surround ideally) is no big deal and muxing ac3 with your video can be done with eiterh virtualdub_ac3 or nandub.

i extract audio from vob to wav and then edit the wav and save to mp3. decoding ac3 to mp3 can be done with numerous tools avail at digital digest or doom.
for extracting my tool of choice is VOB2AUDIO.

for more on soundextracting, editing/improving + final muxing check my guide.

an average 2h movie might have an 350mb ac3 file (never really looked to closely at the size, though)

Bedanke mich, aber leider reicht mein Deutsch nicht die ganze Anleitungen durchzulesen. Gibt es Englische Uebersetzungen?

except for the part on nandub, the ENTIRE guide is available in english on my page as well!!

you will not, however, be able to use the buttons on the left but you will have to scroll down the english pages to be able to get to the following section like you were with the buttons!!

ah - thats where I was going wrong. Thanks.

can I ask you a few more questions? am I right in assuming the original VOBs have more than one AC3 stream to hold the different audio streams? What's the easiest way to rip AC3 from the VOBs? Is there a piece of software that can play AC3 streams? (off to winamp.com to look for a plugin)

          Cheers,
          Alex
