    Why?

why? I mean in general most folks want a VCD in the end. RIGHT!?

Why do we need 5.02 and/or DivX ripped AVI in MP3 lame layer audio. Form where I sit (a slite informed potition) don't we all want to make these DvD rips into vcd or svcd if your so lucking to have a DvD player that do svcd.

TMPGEnc Plus is all I have or know about that converts these avi files to mpeg1 for vcd making... but it doesn't do the 5.02 or mp3 lame layer audio.

Why? Why would we do this to the AVI's if we can't make vcd's out of them?

To make the files smaller and give them greater sound quality! RIGHT!?

Thats great, but hows a person to make vcd's out of them!?

Your initial assumption is wrong. Many people enjoy viewing DivX-compressed .AVIs on their computers (or, with video-out capability, on their televisions), without any further conversion to either VCD or SVCD...

yes, I enjoy it as well.. and have TV out on VidCard

.. but, now that I have a DvD player that is VCD compatible I'm wanting to burn VCD's... u know, get the files off me pc and stuff. RIGHT!

I'd love to know what I need to convert these great looking and sounding avi's to simple mpeg1 for vcd making. NE help man?

"for AC3, 5.02 or wave type: 85 - MP3 audio layer... at least I've not figured it out yet."

.WAV audio format does NOT present a problem to TMPGEnc. Nor does CBR (Constant Bit Rate) .MP3 (MPEG1-Layer3).

.AC3 and VBR (Variable Bit Rate) .MP3 audio will have to be converted ,as will DivX v.5.xx video.

            A) **IMPORTANT - VirtualDub v.1.4AC3 is a specific MODIFIED version of VirtualDub!

Load the .AVI file into VirtualDub v1.4C-AC3, set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying" and select (under "File") "Save .WAV/.AC3" - and save as .AC3 (IMPERATIVE to save as .AC3!).

Despite the fact that .AC3 file extracted using VDub-AC3 doesn't play properly, PX3AC3Converter will do a perfect job of converting it to .WAV format.

            B) To change codecs (compression) used:

            1) Load the .AVI into VirtualDub

            2) Set "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"

            3) Set "Video" to "Full Stream Processing"

            4) From under the "Video" dropdown menu, click on "Compression"

            5) Select the DivX v.3.11alpha codec - If possible, set the adjustable settings to the same as the original file

            6) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" and enter a new filename for the modified file

                "I've converted it to ac3"

You've CONVERTED what to .AC3? (My posted information was regarding EXTRACTING an already existing AC3 audiostream)

If the audiostream is in VBR-MP3 format, do the following:

Simply use VirtualDub to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file as follows:
Load your original .AVI into VirtualDub
From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save WAV" (Enter a new filename with a ".WAV" extender).Click on "OK"

I may have spoke to soon.

[EDIT] nm I found what I needed at http://www.mnsi.net/~jschlic1/ [EDIT]

                    Thanx for your help!

                    I have Dahmer.2002.DVDRip.DivX-XPD

                    With AVI File info:
                    Video Stream
                    compression: "div3 - MPEG4 v3 Cracked "
                    frames per sec: 23:9760
                    file size: 733630464 byte (699.64MB)
                    microseconds per frame: 41708
                    peak bitrate: 0
                    running time 6093.6353 secs.
                    streams (i.e. video,audio): 2
                    res: 512x384
                    from: 0 to 146101
                    quality lvl: 10000 (1 - 10000)
                    colour depth: 24bits
                    audio delay 0 secs.

                    Audio Stream
                    wave type 85 - MP3 audio layer
                    sample rate: 48000
                    bit depth: 0
                    channels: 2 (i.e stereo)

m'k.... ripped wav from it with Vdub then used TMPGEne plus to encode both the avi vidio and the ripped wav file to make a vcd...

                    right

sound is out of sync with mouth movement.... like I said in the begining; why?

why **** up a vcd and encode it to avi? <--don't pay ne attention to that crap... I'm just frustrated is all. I wanna learn.

I noticed that in winamp the file info shows the wav file being 6092 sec if that helps. I don't know how it would.
