Audio sync problems with DivX 5.02

Hi all!

I'm a newbie, so please be patient.

I tried to convert an MPG-File to an AVI File compressed with DivX 5.02, because the MPG File is too big for me.

So I used VirtualDub 1.4c to convert. Audio was set to MP3 128kb and Video to DivX 5.02 620kb (1-pass). Nothing else changed. (Of course, set Audio to full processing mode). So, after cenverting I started the file, but at the end the film isn't sync. The main MPG File is for sure.

So whats the problem? Can anybody help please? At the moment I try with another Codec, but I would like it more, if I could use DivX 5.02.

You might try first extracting the audiostream (from the MPEG file) as an uncompressed PCM .WAV file. Then convert the video and save as a SILENT DivX-compressed .AVI (select "No Audio" from the VIrtualDub "Audio" dropdown menu). Exit VirtualDub and restart it. Load the silent .AVI and load the .WAV audio file (select ".WAV audio" from the "Audio" drodpown menu). Save with a new filename.

But this file is about 42 minutes and it won't be an advantage if I have an Avi-File with an WAV-Stream, because that costs a lot of space. So I think you wanna me to convert the WAV PCM File to a MP3 File?
And if so, when? Before I join the video and audio or when the joining is in progress?(I mean in Virtual Dub)

Ok I tryed, but it don't work.
I did this: I seperated the PCM WAV Stream from the original MPG File. About 430 MB. So I take my old video file, which was not sync. I replaced the audio file with the one I created and compressed the audio file to MP3. Video was on Direct stream copy. After it was done, there was no effect. It is also not sync.

But what is the matter? It's the Divx codec or the MP3 codec? Maybe I should try another codec? But which one is nearly as good as DivX 5.02? I tried to compress the MPG file with an old codec named MS MPEG-4 3688 V2, I used earlier, but that doesn't help.

So, any suggestions?

That's NOT what I suggested you do.

If you first try what I suggested (which is an intermediate step), you'll be able to determine if the .WAV audio remained synchronized with the Silent .AVI.

If so, you can then convert the NEWLY created .AVI to one which incorporates an MP3 audiostream...

Ok I hope I get you right this time:

I made this: I took the MPG File and compressed it without audio, just DivX 5.02. So, after that I restartet VirtualDub and joined the silent avi file with the pcm wav file, without compressing the audio to mp3.
it's still not sync...

sorry, if I misunderstood you again, but my english is not the best, so I hope I get you right this time.

What's the next suggestion?
