Audio question

Couldn't really figure out which forum to pu this into. When I encode I usually change my ac3 to mp3 with Nandub. MY question is there a simple to use program to edit an mp3? I want to increase the volume.

You can use this rather crude method with nandub:
1. Open MP3 file in Nandub
2. Set Audio tab to Full Processing Mode
3. Go to Audio -> Volume and select the desired amount of amplification
4. Go to Audio -> Compression and select Uncompressed PCM
5. Go to File -> Save WAV and give a name to the WAV file

You now have a WAV file whose volume has been amplified. You can convert it back to MP3 and mux it with the original video using nandub.

There is <No Compression> PCM which is always the selected compression. Save as WAV is still greyed out.

I forgot to add that you need to have a video file open as well. Sorry 'bout that. I suggest that you open a video that has the same playlength as the audio file, in this case a frameserver to the movie or its DivX rip.

I believe sourceforge can do it

BUt it takes a hella long time to load a big mp3 file

its probably one of the easier programs to deal with as long as you are still dealing with mp3s

hi, cool edit (2000 version is enough, pro for multitracking) is good for this. i think it has like a 30-day trial or something tho but it offers normalization and compression (on the dynamic range) which is better than just amplifying volume caause overamplifyling will introduce distortion. there are freeware normalizers but as for compression i haven't seen any. gotta stick with a fuller package like cooledit, sound forge, etc.
