Crashes after ~5%.. any ideas?

I'm trying to Flask Independance Day, using 4.12. I started with 4.02 & tried updating the codec but that ddin't help in the slightest. It gets through about 110Mb & then comes up with Flask has performed an illegal operation. I've tried outputting the file on different harddrives, so that's not it. I've tried starting the movie halfway through, so the vob files aren't the problem. I've tried changing the settings slightly in case it didn't like that exact combination, but still no change.

And it's only this movie that it's doing it on. I've Flasked over 30 DVDs so far & apart from Traffic which worked once I cropped one more 16-pixel block off it, this is the only trouble I've ever had..


Anyone know what's going on here??

Have you tried cleaning the DVD?

It's not encoding from the DVD, the vob files are ripped to my HDD.

Okay then, have you successfully played the hardrive version all the way from beginning to end without any hangups - in other words, are you sure that your source file is okay?

I've played through the point where it hangs, yes.

I've loaded it up from the vob files instead of using the .ifo & it seems to have gone sweet. Still have no idea what was causing it.. I also changed the MP3 bitrate from 128 to 112 but I doubt that had much to do with it.

Sorry we haven't resolved your problem yet.

You might try using "old reliable" DivX v.3.11 and Flask v.0.594PX3 - They haven't failed me yet.

Yeah I thought of that.. was going to give it a go if it still screwed up.. but loading the first vob rather than the .ifo seems to have worked. Still, most strange...

Doing it that way, watch out for the possibility of changed audio stream identification from one VOB to the next - You could wind up hearing the first Vob in English, the second in French, etc.

Hmmm.. doesn't it just pick out the Audio track separately? On the selection screen you've got MPG2 tracks, & then a choice of 3 AC3 tracks. Won't it just grab the AC3 & process that as incidental to the AVI?
In any case I'll check that it doens't bugger up.. although that would be rather cool..
