No my CPU is not overclocked - never has been. I think i will try the encoding on another system - it has to be the problem.
I also reinstalled Gknot once - and the divx5 codec. Also tried encoding with divx3
Thanks for your time KPH. I appreciate it.

For anyone who is interested, i solved the problem - my encoded ouput is now beautiful. KHP was right, it never was anything I did wrong. I simply upgraded to Divx Pro 5.02 - as apposed to the 5.0 version. Bingo! No more crap. Perhaps the DLL's were corrupt, who knows.

Now my only problem is to stop dubbing the french audio track .

I'am happy to see that things worked out for you.

But I have to admit that I'am kind of surprised that this was the the problem. I can understand something like this happening in Gknot with version 5.0 or 5.01. But both divx5.0 and 5.01 should work properly when you set it up manually in virtualdub.

If you want the english audio track, it's usually the one, where the letters "T01" appear in the file name, when demuxed by DVD2AVI.

Yeah, well i have a VIA chipset - never know what kind of bug will pop up next with those. Also, I downloaded the 5.02 from the people who made it, the 5.0 was a *ahem* version from Kazhmere. .
