    Divx 5.03 bitrate bottoming out

Is anyone else having problems with the new Divx 5.03? When I use the High Definition profile and encode a video with 2500 kbps it looks great for a little while and then it just bottoms out and looks VERY pixelated! Then about 20 minutes later it goes back to looking normal.
It seems to work well with 2pass encoding but I'd rather not use that. Any suggestions? My system is very much up to par so it's not that. It's an AMD xp2000 with 512DDR ram and a 7200 rpm hard drive. It has worked well with the old codec but the new one is causing problems. Any ideas?

seems pretty much like a bug since you're not the first to complain about this very effect!

        I did'nt understand something..

Why to use bitrate of 2000 or 3000 ?

If you make 2Pass encoding then you use a calculator that mostly give you about 1500 and lower (same thing if you plan to encode DVDs or ReEncode Divx\Xvid movies....).

agreed - still one never knows when this bug might occur or not.

i simply wont use 5.0.3 for the time being as i dont trust the codec too much.

The only thing that I am left to do is either to reinstal version 5.02 or to encode the video and re encode the bad parts and join them together.

i'd rather stick to 502 until a reliable version will hit the ground

Yeah, i was fooling around with 5.02 and 5.03 this morning to see what would be better: To use 5.03 and just re-encode the bad sections or just use 5.02.
I've decided to uninstal 5.03 because there doesn't seem to be that much difference in quality or file size and the hassle is just too much.

What do some of you experts have your Divx settings set at? Not the bitrate but things like the quantizing matrix and settings like that? I've been fooling around with some of them to see what would yield better results. Any suggestions?

that depends a little too much on the film and number of cds to propose some general settings.

Maybe it is a problem of using a extreme high bitrate with DIVX5.03, I don't know but I don't see the point of encoding films with a bitrate any higher than 1500bps, the noticable quaility difference(basiclly none) verses file size just seems to be an overkill. As for uninstalling the DIVX5.03, maybe you can see it in you to perservere with it, to find anymore improvements needed in the codec and advise the makers of DIVX 5.03- after all we do want to get the best quality codec to encode with.

I'll reinstall 5.03 and try using a lower bitrate and see if that works. There were certain scenes that looked better using 5.03 and I'm trying to find a good compromise with the advanced settings and I'm not 100% pleased with the results so far. I want the 90 minute movie to be under 1100MB but I don't want crappy compression looking picture. So I'll fool around some more and see if lowering the bitrate of 5.03 will work.
                      Thanks.

i havent have had absolutely no problems getting 90-120 minutes of film on one cd using two languages (ogg of course - not mp3) with 5.0.2 using lanczos resizer and convolution3d
