new to DVDx, with a few questions...

    Hi,
I just started using DVDx 2.0. It works fine but I have a few questions:

-is there a way to get the DVDx.HLP file that is missing in my download?

-I just made an AVI from a DVD. It worked but the aspect ratio is wrong (too flat). I can correct it when using DivX Player with a custom aspect ratio of 1 to 1, but then there are horizontal AND vertical black bands, so I cannot have it on full screen. How can I force the output to look correct?

-The default resolution given in the output settings is 352x 240. Is that the resolution of the movie? is it standard for DivX or MPEG? isn't it a bit low compared to the original DVD?

-DVDx works on my wife computer with XP, but not on mine with Windows 98: after I open the DVD root and OK the input settings it doesn't respond anymore. Is it a known issue?

-Finally (sorry for the long list!) should I install the premiere video server that comes with DVDx? What does it bring additional?

    Many thanks for your help

The resolution of 352x240 is the standard resolution for VCD's (MPEG1-VideoCD) in the NTSC "world" (primarily the U.S.). 352x288 is the standard resolution for VCD's (MPEG1-VideoCD) in the PAL "world' (Europe and others).

Standard resolution for NTSC DVDs is 720x480.

Standard resolution for PAL DVDs is 720x576.

Thanks Setarip, that explains a big part of the compression "performance" of mpeg: they divide the number of pixels by 4...

Do you know what it is for AVI/MPEG 4 in DivX?

And do you have some elements of answer re my questions on DVDx?

      cheers

"Do you know what it is for AVI/MPEG 4 in DivX?"

There are NO resolution standards for those formats (primarily because they are computer-only output formats - and PC monitors can handle virtually any resolution you can "throw" at them ;>}) - you are free to use whatever resolution satisfies your needs...

"And do you have some elements of answer re my questions on DVDx?"

I've not used that software and, therefore, cannot offer you any insight into its proper usage...
