when I try to convert a dvd moive the the programs keep hangning. I have tried different programs like dvd2avi, flask, virtualdub and different codecs like divx 4+, divx 3.11 and wmv but nothing works. The exact same things happen in both win2k and winXP. is it the 2k platform??

From what you said you have tried the problem is probable an overheating problem, i had exactly the same symptoms as you are experiancing with my Athlon 1.4, i proved it was heat by clocking it down to 1GHz and then it worked fine, i have since fitted a monster cooler and all is now fine.

thanks.. I installed cduidle and configured the divx codec so only 30% of the processor power could be used..
but now I am only encoding with 8fps =(..
