DivX causing Windows Media Player problems???

I have just recently downloaded DivX 2.0 Alpha.exe as well as the Nimo Codec Pack. My .avi files are now playing (with sound and picture) but now Windows Media Player is giving me problems when I play songs I've gotten off the internet. At the end of any song, this message appears,

"wmplayer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows will need to restart the program. An error log is being created"

and then it closes. I think that it is either DivX or the Codec Pack that are causing the problem. But I need both to play .avi files so I don't want to delete them.

    Any suggestions?

The NIMO CODEC PACK may be the cause of your problems.
    Uninstall it.

As a general rule, install only the codecs you need to avoid system problems. A good codec pack is the TSUNAMI CODEC PACK, you can select which codecs to install.
