Merging subtitles to DivX file

I'm trying to MERGE subtitles to a divX file into ONE file using Virtual Dub, but I understand that I need a .ssa file to use in Virtual Dub. Is this right?
And if this is right, how do I convert a .sub-file til a .ssa file?

Yes you are right
VDub's plugin for subtitles can only read the ssa format

If your subs are *.srt then just use the srt to ssa converter
