    Menus and bonus

When using smartripper, I can easely get all the movies from the DVD, bit I'd like to make a real DVD with menus and so on (in MicroDvd format).

My problem is that is can't retrieve the menus. Where are they and how to encode them from the DVD ?

    Thank you for your help

First of all I use dvddecrypter to rip the movie.I find it easier.
The menu vob is usually a small sized vob.It is not one of the main files. You have to rip all the other small vobs on your hard disk an view them (with powerdvd or flaskmpeg) and see which one contains the menu.
    What I do next:
I compress this vob with flaskmpeg (From now on I am using Xmpeg, much faster)
    and I take my menu.avi.
I open it with virtual dub and keep only the menu in english (I cut the other languages because they take a lot of space).
After that, the painfull part is that you have to write down the frames of the pages your menu will have.
    What do I mean:
For example for your menu main page you want to have the main page of the original menu. You search for it with virtual dub and write down the first and the last frame.
You do the same with all the pages you want to create.
After that you have to create the mdvd.mvd (micro dvd ini file).
You will find usefull a programm called MDVDP_MenuMaker but it has a lot of bugs.
It helped me though to understand how the micro dvd ini worked.
You sould also read the documentation of micro dvd.
If you want I can send you one my ini's to see how it looks and try to do the same thing with on of your movies!

      Thank you very much Nickmavros.

I already read some guides and documentation about MicroDvd menus, and I tried it with some static menu I did myself from a jpg image.

I'll now apply your advices to get menus from the vob files.

        No problem my friend.
I am sure you will create nice menus (It is really easy).
And they are very impressive (if you use video instead of pictures).
If you need help let me know.

P.S. Don't think that I know too many things on this subject but I have created about 20-30 menus so I believe I can help you.

If the movie is i.e. in the "vts_07_1.vob" to "vts_07_4.vob" the menue normaly is stored in the "vts_07_0.vob". Sometimes it can be found in the "vts_01_0.vob" or "video_ts.vob". Best way for quality is to open the vob with DVD2AVI, save it as project-file and "convert" to pseudo-avi with VFAPI. Then you can open the DVD-quality-avi in Virtualdub, resize it, save images or cut the video at the exact frame and save as a divx-avi. DVD2AVI should also be able to save the audio-track as a wav-file if you want background-music for your menue.
          don't trust in guides

If you are interested in making microDVD menus, why not check out DivX Goodies which was recently set up to share menus and chapterlists.
