I read through your guide to encoding with gknot and i found it very very thorough...thanx for the great guide. But...even tho i followed your guide step for step i was still unable to convert my vob to an avi. I read at the top of the page of your guide it said ONLY for PAL not NTSC. honestly im not too sure what my vob file was but i tried it anyways. everything was going fine, perfect actually...but when i was finally done encoded and everything it said the file was done encoding and it gave me the path to where my video should of been "d:/rips/...test.avi" then when i go there i found nothing there! i tried it again thinking i did something wrong and and yet again there was no avi! im stump big time. Is that what happens if you try to do the process with a NTSC video? if so could you tell me how i could change the settings so that it will work? or any other suggestions would be great. good job on the guide anyways...it was very thorough and clean. please help!!
UNCASMS a question for you

since i'm in the pal world and didnt have ntsc material for proper testing i wanted to make clear that the instruction are based on pal.
ntsc differs - take interlacing for example, which hardly occurs in pal dvds.
BUT this means you would have to take little additional steps in order to achieve your goal - it does NOT mean, gordiaknot should have left you with no file at all!
i used gk 026 for my guide (which i wrote more than a year ago) together with divx 5.02
later versions than dixv 5.02 did not work good enough for me that's why i dont use them.
later versions of gk were never tested since i started using dvx later last year.
i'm not sure what went wrong on your case from what i read so far.
- which gk version did you use?
- which divx version?
- did you install the gk system pack?
search for a gordianknot*.log file and post the content please. -
Im using gknot 0.27 w/ divx 5.xx hmmm sumthing. and no i havent installed the pack.
ive tried it again and this time i left it open so i can copy what it says...maybe this will help explain whats going wrong

If you are using GK0.27 you MUST use divx5.02.
Installing the system pack would obviously be adviceable, unless you are absolutly sure you have everything configured properly.Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.

Try loading file D:\Ripped\Ring\tests\4321.avs into virtualdub.
Select Video->compression and select divx5.02.
And select File->'Save as avi' to start the encoding.
This will almost cirtainly fail at some point. Tell us where, and what error message you get.Last edited by khp; 22 Apr 2003, 05:27 PM.Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.
