Compress A DivX Video? (how?)

ok, i have a Divx file and the size is 741 mb's and i want to get it down to 650 for a vcd.

Anyone know of a program that can help me out?

As an additional point - initially I apparently overlooked your reference to desiring to convert to VCD format.

VideoCDs are based on PLAYING TIME (just like audio CDs) and NOT filesize. You should be able to get up to 74 minutes of VCD format on a 650Meg CD-R and up to 80 minutes on a 700 Meg VCD.

I have never seen Vcd's for sale.

Anyways, I have two DivX vids I would like to make into Vcd's

One is: 741 Mb (Scarface)

and another is

724 Mb (The Breakfast Club)

And I only have 80min/700mb cd-r's and 74min/650mb

To test if a Vcd is Gonna work, I use a CDR-W first, because I don't want to waste a CD-R.

Using a CD R/W will limit you to approximately 74 minutes of playing time. I'd strongly suggest you "risk" the few pennies and buy some 80minute/700Meg CD-Rs ;>}

As setarip said, VCD (of those two movies) will not fit on to one CDR or CDRW because they use a constant bitrate (~1100). If you want to try to fit those onto one CD, try using mpeg2 instead of mpeg1 (SVCD vs VCD). When you use SVCD, you can choose the variable bitrate (better quality for smaller sizes) and I suppose you could then fit it on 1 CD.

The way to do this is use TMPGenc and convert the file to SVCD (or VCD). In this program, you can change the bitrate of the SVCD and the program gives you feedback to the approximate final size. I do think it is a good idea to try about 5 minutes of the movie first and do it on a CDRW because you may have to play with different settings in TMPGenc to make it compatible with your DVD player.

One more thing. SVCD is sometimes difficult to burn to the CDR because most of the popular burning programs don't have this option. The newest Roxio provides this option and I think the newest Neuro stuff does also - but if you are like me with one of the older versions of one of these, it will be difficult. There is a great program called VCDeasy that is free and works great and is not to difficult to figure out.

OK, the areas to change the bitrate are all grayed out, and can't change the bitrate.

Click on the "Load" radio button, then doubleclick on "Unlock.mcf"...

Are you talking about in TMPGenc? Are you using Project Wizard?

Yeah I was using the wizard mode.

But I tried to do it manually, and it dosn't show how much space it's going to use.

This thing is a little complicated.....
