the future of divx?

hi all

first time poster..

ive been encoding divx for a while, and there has been a lot of changes recently, and i think im out of the loop.

what codec is everyone using?
i was using 4.12 but i read on this site that its obsolete...

is everyone heading towards xvid or something else?

you might want to try with divx 5.02, the newer versions 5.03 and 5.05 doesnt work well, but if you want the best i recommend you to try xvid, with xvid you wont have problems at all...

I would go with Xvid I encoded "The Edge" with DivX 5.0.5 and it really hates dark senes (HOW DO YOU SPELL THAT) it gets really blocky (From my encoding it did anyways)

There are a lot of new codecs available. To find out the benifits and pitfalls of the major codecs take a look at Doom9's codec comparison.

I personally find XVID or the rather-outdated but "still competitive" SBC to be the best choices if you want to preserve detail, and have a relatively medium-to-high bitrate.
