    Just a quicky

    G'day.

I have ripped a DVD to my HDD using SmartRipper. I was wondering what program should I use to make it into a .AVI file?

I have tried this before and it worked although I cant remember what I did, and the aspect ration was screwed up. It ended up being 4:3 instead of 16:9.
I am sure that this is just a tick box, although for what program??

I suggest DVX or GordianKnot 0.28 for converting your .VOB files to .AVI

I'm partial to DVD2AVI + VFAPI. However this doesn't create a real AVI. It just references to the VOBs. Basically this allows you to watch the DVD files with any player that plays AVI files.

But you can use VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod, to convert it to a compressed AVI with a codec of your choice (DivX, Xvid, various other), or NanDub to convert it to DivX 3.11a.

Doing it this way seems to save me a lot of time since you aren't converting the VOBs to an uncompressed AVI, and then again converting it to a compressed AVI.

for simple dvd(w/o multiangle ecc.) you could also use the vdub mod that loads mpg2 here .

regarding the uncompressed intermediate file it saves you time if you are applying any filter, cause you can do the 2 pass compression with a file already filtered

          Thanks fella's.

This is all good, although there are opinions to which one is faster and better.
I dont know all the technical specs, I just need one that will take advantage of SSE2.

What is the difference in codecs? is that what I have just been talking about??

I thought that DivX is tthe one to use

I like divx 5.05. it seems to have less blocky artifacts than the previous versions.

By the way... Techno likes 3.11a

              OK.

Is there a program that will convert the .vob files on my HDD to .avi WITH audio, without me having to know what I am doing?

A point and click sorta thing?

Oh, you did "Save AVI." If you do "Save Job," It saves just a small D2V file and an audio file (either AC3 or WAV, depending on your selections). Then you use VFAPI to create an AVI that uses DVD2AVI's D2V file to reference the VOBs.
