        thanks for replying!

        I have read both guides and have to admit find them rather confusing. If I may I would like to ask another question!

        What I really want are permanent subtitles, I would like them as a permanent feature of the film. (So far I have only managed to get the subtitles to work when the .sub file is in the same folder as the film) I find the guides a litle confusing as they talk about ripping from DVD with .vob files, this is not the case for me as I only have the .divx file.

        Is there a simple program I can use which will allow me to take the .sub file and permanantly integrate it with the film?

        thanks again

          U can use Vobsub to add permanent subtitles to your movies
          all u have to do with Vobsub 2.05 is to install it. Then go to add Filter and select it from the filters at Virualdub. Select your *.IFO file from the folder u have saved the movie and Click "I have stripped the Vob files and crossed my fingers" button and wait about 5 mins.
          Simple as that. Now your movie will have permanent subtitles
          All the above is for Virtual Dub
          ****************
          Speak until the tape runs out. Playback the tape until the story is finished...

            thanks 4 replying!

            I dont have an .ifo file, ONLY .sub (found on the net not created by me) which vobsub claims to support aswell. However when I try to open the .sub file in vobsub nothing happens??? What is a .ifo file??? do I need this in order to create my movie?

            thanx again

              I wil try to reply very simple.

              You need:
              • Virtual Dub
              • A subtitler filter for Virtual Dub (place in the plugins directory of VDub)
              • a converter to make your subtitles into ssa-format

              You can get all these from the software section of divx-digest

              Open virtual dub
              audio ---> direct stream
              video ---> full processing mode
              File ---> open video file
              video ---> filters --->ADD ---> subtitler ---> browse to find your ssa-subtitle--file

              2 times(?) OK

              Video ---> compression ---> (now what I use) DivX MPEG-4 video-codec
              configure ---> new window pops up
              * keyframe every ...1 second
              * data rate ............depends on how big you want your movie to be

              File ---> save as AVI...

              And you're done. Permanent subtitles in your avi

              Note: make sure your subtitles are synchronized before converting them into ssa-format

                      You can increase the quality with this step

                      * data rate ............depends on how big you want your movie to be

                      If you set it at 6000 then you will get the best quality ..........but the downside is that your avi size will increase considerable, which isn't a big deal if you want to convert it into mpg to burn a vcd (because for 1 1/2 movie you will need two vcd's anyway)
                      But if you want to save your avi one ONE cd with subtitles then the data rate should be ~900 for a 700MB starting avi to keep it 700MB and thus you will loose quality

                      If only we could have the best of both

                          I was wondering how to put sub titles on the avi too, this was really helpful. Thanks a lot.

                          I was wondering though, if it is possible to put subtitles on as I create a DIVX from a vob file.

                          It would save some time if I could do that.
