re-encode a divx file?

I'm looking to re-encode a divx/xvid file so that I can try it out on my pda.
I'm currently using gordianknot and divx 5.05. I'm not having any problem with the video, the problem is the audio. I want to resize the video and redo the bitrate, as well as redo the audio bitrate. Everything works fine except the audio, when gk is done there is no audio and in the log I get this error, " Error: MP3-File-Size is zero! Transcoding failed.".

I'm not sure how I should go about re-encoding the audio, should I be pointing to the original avi file? or is there another step that I must do?

I've tried virtual dub but I don't see any audio options.

recompressing audio and video with virtual dub.

1.load your video into virtual dub.
2.in both menues video and audio select full processing mode
3. in the video menue choose your compression and the desired bitrate.
4.in the audio menue choose compression--> click on an mp3 codec in the left window--> choose a bitrate in the right window
--> hit ok.

save as avi with a new filename.

of course you must have all decompressing and compressing
codecs installed.

Thanks but that's one of the problems, I don't see a audio tab to select full processing mode

I'm using virtualdubmod 1.5.1.1a if that matters.

I now realize that yes there is a difference between vdub and vdubmod, doh!!

One other quick question. How would I go about doing a two pass encoding through virtualdub? I usually use gk and it's pretty straight forward.

set settings to the 2-pass:1st pass then "save as..." and check the "defer processing..." box. do the same for the 2-pass:2nd pass and go to the job control (F4) then "start". I usually do video and audio separately then mux..
