Encoding DV Video recordings in DIVX

Hi, im trying to make a stockpile of VHS tapes on my computer before they all degrade into a fuzzy mess of trash recordings, so i have been transfering them to my DV camera and then recording via firewire to my computer, the quality is excellent at the 720x480 DV resolution, so now i have been attempting to encode these files in DIVX. A 45 min show is around 420, 430mb. This is fine for me as far as size goes. However im having a problem after encoding. There seems to be a motion blur effect which i am not liking at all. When someone moves his arm quickly or if a vehicle passes by at high speed there is an annoying blur effect, this does not appear on dvd rips or on the source DV recording, here are my settings that i am currently using for my encoding.

    Frame size: 512x384
    KBPS: 1000
    Bitrate: 1 Pass
Performance/Quality: Slow or Slowest, looks the same either way, medium creates colored overlay effect.
    Keyframe interval: 300 frames.

    Can anyone help? thanks.

Have you tried turning off post processing and film effect on your decoder? If it doesn't help, could you give us a screenshot of a DivX frame exhibiting this, next to a non-compressed copy?

If i gave you a frame vs frame, it would look the same, its just that on the raw source, you cant see it, but on the divx, its very noticeable. Also, how can i check to see if i have these options on in my decoder?

        Thanks.

Well, if there's motion blur, then it logically has to show up on SOME of the decoded frames. I'm not sure what version of DivX you're running, but there should be a config.exe in the start menu folder.

ok, here we go, the blurred one is from the divx compression, and the non blurred one is from the raw capture. You can also see on the blurred on it messes with the color also, dont know why it does this.

              1) Increase the Kbps

              2) Increase the frequency of keyframes (REDUCE the number)

alright, i will try these, but i cannot increase the kbps to much because i would like to keep these around 350-450 mb in size, also, how come the color is all messed up?

did you ever think about de-interlacing?
