    convert mpeg-avi with ac3 audio

Anyone know how to convert an mpeg file to an avi file using ac3 audio instead of mp3? I have the ac3 filter installed, but it doesn't show up in VDub under the audio compression codecs. Would appreciate any help!

"I have the ac3 filter installed, but it doesn't show up in VDub under the audio compression codecs."

That's because it's a playback filter and not a codec per se.

okay, I've got the codec installed also, but it doesn't show up in the list under VDub. GSpot shows it as AC3 from AVI, but I can't find it in VDub or VDubMod.

as it has been said almost a thousand times before
Virtual dub does not process ac3 files!!!!!!!

        only virtualdub mod does.

there is also no need to process the ac3 file just muxing with a
proper preload and interleave value if neccesary.
or do you want to change the bitrate of the audio as well?

"Anyone know how to convert an mpeg file to an avi file using ac3 audio instead of mp3?"

I interpreted this to mean that "millerlite2" presently has an MPEG file, containing a conventional (not .AC3) MPEG audiostream) that he/she wants to convert to .AVI with .AC3 - which would require converting the audiostream to .AC3. As far as I know (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong), VirtualDubMOD is not capable of converting audiostreams to .AC3 format...

so I was mistaking... of course Vidub mod is not capable of
encoding into ac3 format but able to interleave and mux.

I thought he had an m2v (mpegstream ) with AC3 soundstream.

I was mislead by the gspot ....assuming it already is in AC3.

If it is a normal mpeg2 file

It is possible, surley only an ac3 two channel will make sense
(though there is a method to maintain multichannel in mpeg audiostreams.)

still in this case I would demux the mpeg file convert it to wav
and then use besweet for the AC3 converting.

after this has been accomplished it can be remuxed with virtual dub MOD.

here is a guide on how to convert to AC3 using besweet.

if the mpeg file really has an ac3 audiostream (maybe it was ripped from a dvd) just demuxing and then converting the
m2v stream to avi then remuxing it would work....???!!!
